If you’re in DC looking to make 2 wheeled friends (and you don’t want to hang around one of the shops listed on the Service page) there are a few watering holes in the city known for being friendly to bikers.
The one and only Breadsoda on Wisconsin Ave is my original hangout, and if you’re nice to the owners and run up a big tab, they’ll let you park your bike in the garage so you can Uber home safely.
The Neptune Room on Georgia Ave has also been known to host moto movie nights and other events.
The Dew Drop Inn on 8th NE has an excellent roof deck overlooking the bike parking area along with a view of some derelict industrial buildings and a busy train line if that’s your jam.
Riding Areas
There is some road riding in and around DC, and it’s not just kids on dirtbikes wheelieing past your house or those guys on sportbikes with novelty mohawk helmets who pass you on 495 or Rt. 50 doing 180mph.
Popular routes include Rock Creek Parkway to GW Parkway and out 193 past Great Falls, MacArthur Blvd to River Road and on up to Poolesville, or down Suitland Parkway to Rt. 4 and the backroads in Southern Maryland.
Lots more twisties and dirt roads an hour or so out of the city in pretty much any direction, but a few spots deserve special mention – 211 up to Skyline Drive, 33 out over the mountains West of Harrisonburg, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are all worth the trip.
Check out Summit Point Motorsports Park for track days and road racing.
Wicomico Motorsports Park and Budds Creek are practically neighbors down in Maryland and have excellent dirt bike trails and motocross tracks.
Tomahawk MX is out near Berkeley Springs and has some fun terrain, and if you like rocks and mud, Moto Cove is half an hour past Winchester.
Lots more to discover once you get plugged in.
